Long-term goals: International success and becoming a professional
Coaching: Since autumn 1999 worked closely with professional coach Juuso Koistinen former race cyclist himself. Juuso Koistinen have level 4 (EU) studies in sport training. He was earlier Finnish National Coach Mountain Bike and Junior Road. He was also Finnish Triathlon Training Manager and National Coach.
Physical development 2000-2005: Maximum workload (watts) has developed 4-14% yearly. Aerobic threshold has increased steadily, about 5% every year, in a good relation compared to the maximum workload. Greatest leaps in maximum workload were achieved in 2000-2002 and in winter 2005. Increase was immense in 2000-2002 because as a beginner compensation for training was, naturally, much higher. The increase in the winter 2005 was achieved by enhancing training. This included the whole winter on the bike and some periods training at altitude. This performance-development is to been seen in the racing-results from 2005. Maximum oxygen intake has increased from 4 to 6 percent every year since the first two years of training. The quantity of training in recent years: 2003-2004: 800 hours 2004-2005: 900 hours
Physical development 2005 - 2009:
The quantity of training has reached a plateau of about 800-900 hours per year because the number of racing days has become a limiting factor in reaching higher quantities. This has led to more efficient training which also prompted Tommi to start using a powermeter as a tool to help interpret cumulative stress and gauge the intensity of his training sessions. Measured maximum oxygen intake has also reached itīs peak, and is now 82ml/kg/min during the peak racing season. More information, please ask from Juuso Koistinen. 10.09.2009 |
